Cheerfulness....

Post by Elrick on December 1st 2011, 11:38 am

The pic should mean ... Cheerfulness, like spring, opens all the blossoms of the inward woman and man....

'The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth...' ~ Albert Einstein

There has been a lot recently on our TVs about what makes a person happy, by doing a survey. I personally think that question is misleading, as I can be happy today because I won a small amount of money, or someone had laid on a surprise birthday party for me today. Yet unhappy tomorrow as I heard a friend had had an accident or worse, had passed on. It would be better to ask, what makes a person contented. Contented with there lot.

To be quote "happy" you must be a permanently positive person, even when life is at a negative stage, when we see the positive in that negative, unlike a negative outlook on life permanently, that person will never be happy, and always looking to be finding fault.

A very beautiful and cheerful picture Elrick.

cheer·ful (chîrfl)adj.
1. Being in good spirits; merry.
2. Promoting a feeling of cheer; pleasant: a cozy, cheerful room.
3. Reflecting willingness or good humor.

cheer·ful
[cheer-fuhl]
adjective 1. full of cheer; in good spirits: a cheerful person.
2. promoting or inducing cheer; pleasant; bright: cheerful surroundings.
3. characterized by or expressive of good spirits or cheerfulness: cheerful songs.
4. hearty or ungrudging: cheerful giving.

I think that it is possible to be cheerful without being happy.

Yes but being cheerful can be short lived, and of course so can being happy.

I was thinking of cheerfulness in the work place and around other people in general as a courtesy, whether one feels happy or not. Is all Smile

Just found this quote, maybe this explains the differences better.

I'm not happy, I'm cheerful. There's a difference. A happy woman has no cares at all. A cheerful woman has cares but has learned how to deal with them.

Beverly Sills
(1929-, American opera singer)

Certainly, you cannot drink cheerfulness like a coke but cheerfulness can be stimulated, cultivated and maintained through specific techniques and it is an excellent antidote for self-affectation. One of the functions of humor is to help all of us take ourselves less seriously. Humor is the divine antidote for exaltation of ego.

To complicate a little more, lol, the weather has a lot to do with it. How we act differently when the sun is out, and all looks bright. We naturally smile at people. Dark drawn in nights, dismal looking daytime's, cause many an Illness, if thats the correct term. S.A.D. ( Seasonal Affective Disorder )

Elrick, yes agree humour is the best antidote.

Your link will not allow me in, says forbidden, error 404.

That link contains a Cheerfulness Detection Mechanism and if the clicker is evidently endeavouring to indulge in the humour of his/her sadness without restrain and tried to conceal it and affected a cheerfulness that is too artificial to escape detection, then it triggers an 404 error and forbid access.
