The Dragonfly

Post by Lady Sunfire on March 25th 2010, 1:32 am

For many pagans and spiritual ones, the dragonfly is often focused on .. So i did some research of my own, and closely thought about why the dragonfly is often a focus point, used in tattoos, paintings and even charms, to name a few.
The meanings originated from japanese and native american cultures. They say that as a creature of the wind, a dragonfly represents change. Its wings are sensitve to slight breezes, so we too should heed where the wind blows us in life.
Dragonflies also live near water, which in and of itself is symbolic of the subconscious mind.
Dragonflies symbolically carry a message dealing with deeper thought, reminding us to pay attention to our own deeper thoughts and desires.
Finally, a dragonfly lives a short life, so it must live life to the fullest.
Using the symbol of the dragonfly in meditation or just on thoughts about life, can help with the focus in improving lifes choices in the process.

I'm not an insect person at all, but strangely enough I've always thought of Dragonflies as somewhat beautiful??? Great info..

Thanks Lady Sunfire i've never thought of the dragonfly as being so symbolic, i am sure the next time i see a dragonfly i will study it with awareness. One of my favorite insects is the Lightning Bug (Firefly) it has always been a great symbolism for me to Light up the Darkness so others may see the Beacon of Light, that emanates from each one of us. Maybe the Lightning Bug & the Dragonfly can be one our Greatest Teachers as i am sure all of Life is.

Many Blessings

Believe it or not.....

Man has killed off the insects
not to instinction but
we swat flys.....out of fear
that we should get it before it gets us.....

hmmmmmmm.....
symbolism vs reality they are opposites indeed...
the fragility of the concept is daunting like
a swarm without and enemy could overtake the earth....

Truely, Nature makes beautiful colors......

so, as keepers of the Garden humans have failed or do
they still get another chance to make it right......hmmmmm

I belive many folks would say they failed and we continue
to dwell in what is left of the original creation..... gasping for breath...

I know I am so dramatic, forgive me.....LOL

Cheers to Natures Beauty

Spiritual Symbols: Butterfly and Dragonfly
The butterfly and the dragon fly have similar spiritual significance The butterfly, through it's metamorphosis from the caterpillar, symbolizes rebirth and the soul. To the Chinese, it symbolizes immortality as well as joy and leisure. To the Japanese, a white one is considered a spirit of someone dead. Butterflies are often used in art as symbols for female energy, homosexuality, sensuality, temptation, marriage, death and good luck as well as rebirth and immortality. It is also a symbol of creativity and freedom.
The dragonfly can symbolize swiftness, activity and whirlwinds, but, like the butterfly, it also symbolizes rebirth and immortality. They also symbolize transformation and adaptation. When mating, dragonflies form a heart shape so they are also a symbol of love. They symbolize our ability to transform ourselfs through a spiritual awakening. . So if you see a dragonfly in an unusual place or setting, it is probably a good symbol meaning luck, transformation, or spiritual awakening.

that is really beautiful WD....
as most of us already know
how hectic the business world is
not giving any time to dwell
on nature yet some huge
businesses might make allowances
for their employees to take some time
to continue to appreciate nature
as a stress reliever it's really not
enough as if taking a weekend to
shut off from work completely -
even housework - and give it up
to Nature to see our inherent
connection to it and as protectors
of it instead of oblitiators of the
Miracle of Life itself.

the pic of the Dragonfly Heart
would make a beautiful card for
Valentines....LOL... to start.

A link to "DragonFly Day" , a photo I took which should have no little lights flying about but does anyway!

I cannot explain the photo other then this:
The morning it was shot I asked The Divine to send in the Dragonflies and 100 Million appeared that day! I also asked if Nature Spirits really existed and if I might by chance be granted the ability to see them. When I snapped the picture I thought my eyesight and my camera were going berserk. Later, when I looked at the picture closer I was most amazed. It reminded me of a True Story I once watched ......"A Fairy-Tale: A True Story"
